- You need the work permission stamp/endorsement on your Residence Card before the first shift. Apply at the airport (free, instant) — it says 'Permitted: up to 28 hours a week'.
- 28 hours is per week, Monday to Sunday, across all employers. Two jobs of 20 hours each = 40 hours = illegal.
- During the school's official spring, summer and winter holidays you may work 8 hours a day (40 a week).
- Banned: bars serving customers, hostess/host clubs, pachinko, game centres with gambling, adult entertainment — even cleaning or kitchen work inside these venues.
- If you stop attending school, the permission is void and working becomes illegal immediately.
時給と月収の計算
| Region (2025 min. wage) | Typical student wage | 28 h/week ≈ 112 h/month |
|---|---|---|
| Tokyo (¥1,226) | ¥1,230–1,400 | ¥138,000–157,000 gross |
| Osaka (¥1,177) | ¥1,180–1,350 | ¥132,000–151,000 |
| Saitama / Chiba (¥1,141–1,149) | ¥1,150–1,300 | ¥129,000–146,000 |
| Fukuoka / regional (¥1,050–1,100) | ¥1,060–1,200 | ¥119,000–134,000 |
Deductions: income tax is withheld at about 3% on small monthly wages (a year-end adjustment may refund part of it), and National Health Insurance plus residence tax from the second year cost roughly ¥2,000–5,000 a month. Night shifts (22:00–05:00) pay 25% extra by law, which is why many students choose convenience-store night shifts.
よくある質問
How many hours can a student work in Japan?
Up to 28 hours per week during term, counted across all jobs, and up to 8 hours a day (40 a week) during the school's official long holidays — with the work permission endorsement on the Residence Card.
How much can a Bangladeshi student earn per month in Japan?
At the legal 28 hours a week, about ¥120,000–150,000 a month gross depending on the city (roughly 1.1–1.5 lakh BDT), and ¥110,000–130,000 after deductions. This covers living costs but not tuition.
Can I work in Japan from the first week?
Legally yes, once you have the work permission on your Residence Card (given at the airport). Practically, most students start within 3–6 weeks after getting a phone, bank account and some classroom Japanese.
Are there halal-friendly part-time jobs in Japan?
Yes — warehouses, convenience stores, hotels, food factories that do not process pork, and the many halal and Bangladeshi restaurants in Tokyo, Saitama and Osaka. Ask about pork and alcohol handling before accepting a kitchen job.
