JLPT N4 in Dhaka: July Test Registration, Fees & Result Timeline

Every June, someone bursts into my office saying, "Sir, I heard the JLPT registration is already closed!" I tell them to sit down and have some tea. This article is for exactly that student — you want to sit JLPT N4 in Dhaka but don't know where the process actually begins.

Here's the plain truth: if you want to study in Japan, you need proof of Japanese ability. N4 means you can understand basic Japanese and hold simple conversations. Many language schools accept N5, but N4 opens up far more options and strengthens your student visa file.

What Is the JLPT, and Why Aim for N4?

The JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) runs twice a year — July and December. Five levels, N5 (easiest) to N1. In Dhaka, N5 and N4 are the levels most students sit first.

N4 requires roughly:

• About 300 kanji and 1,500 vocabulary words
• Core grammar — te-form, potential form, conditionals
• Reading simple passages and everyday conversation

I often tell students you can skip N5 and go straight to N4 if you have about six months of serious preparation. But don't rush. Failing N4 and losing the December cycle is worse than passing N5 and building confidence.

Step by step

• Watch for the announcement — usually February to March for the July session.
• Online form — NID or passport details, a photo, and your chosen level.

• Exam day — typically the first Sunday of July.

Caution: spell your name exactly as it appears on your passport. One letter off, and you'll fight paperwork later during the visa stage.

Fees and the Exam Centre

I remember a batch of students who used an old Facebook post, paid the wrong amount at the bank, and had to start over.

When Do Results Come Out — and What Next?

July results usually arrive between late August and mid-September — roughly six to seven weeks after the exam. You can check online, and certificates take a few more weeks to reach you.

Don't waste that waiting period. Start gathering documents for your Japanese language school now. The COE (Certificate of Eligibility) process takes time, and school intake deadlines aren't flexible.

One more honest note: don't panic about the cost of studying abroad, but stay realistic. For a language school in Japan, one year of tuition plus living costs lands somewhere around BDT 8–10 lakh (approximate — the yen rate moves). Scholarships for studying abroad rarely cover everything, so keep a plan B.

• Take one mock test and find your weak spots.
• Follow the official JLPT site and turn on notifications.
• Check your passport expiry — renew now if it ends before 2026.
