How to Verify a Japanese Language School Before Paying: 5 Steps

Dreaming of studying in Japan from Bangladesh? Great. But before you pay, you need to verify the language school is legitimate. I've personally seen students lose money and visa chances to fake schools. Follow these 5 steps today.
Step 1: Check the Japan Education Organization (JEO) or Ministry of Justice List
All legitimate language schools in Japan are registered with the Ministry of Justice. Visit their official site (http://www.moj.go.jp) and search for the school name under 'Foreign Student Facilities.' If it's not listed, be cautious. You can also check our university list for verified schools.
How to check?
- Go to the Ministry of Justice website.
- Look for the school's name in the list of authorized institutions.
- Or contact us and we'll verify for you.
Step 2: Verify the School's Website and Address
Fake schools often have poorly made or copied websites. Search the address on Google Maps. Legitimate schools are usually in central areas like Shinjuku or Shibuya in Tokyo. For example, schools near Shin-Okubo Station on the Seibu Shinjuku Line are common. Use Street View to see if the building looks real.
Step 3: Understand Fee Structure and Refund Policy
Many agencies in Bangladesh ask for full payment upfront—this is a red flag. Real schools usually charge an application fee first (about 20,000–30,000 yen), then tuition (around 600,000–800,000 yen) after you get the visa. Check the eligibility page for details. Always get a written refund policy before paying.
Step 4: Read Reviews from Former Students
Search Facebook groups like 'Japan Study Bangladesh' for reviews. Google Reviews can help too, but beware of fake ones. Look at the reviewers' profiles—are they real? Do many reviews sound the same? You can also talk to students near the school during JLPT test dates for honest opinions.
Step 5: If Using an Agency, Verify the Agency Too
Check the agency's trade license and address. The Bangladesh Ministry of Education lists authorized study agencies. Our institute offers pre-departure support, but you should still verify independently.
Remember: Your dream is worth it, but don't waste it on a fake school. Follow these steps before paying. If you need help, reach out to us. We're here for you.
